Aukera Energy reaches financial close on 170 MW/340 MWh BESS in Belgium

Aukera Energy, in a joint venture with Weerts Group, has reached financial close on a 170 MW/340 MWh BESS project in La Louvière, Belgium (Aukera press release, 03/06/2026). The Project Volt, the company’s first battery asset in Belgium, consists of a two-hour storage project designed to allow flexible expansion for longer durations as grid conditions change. The transmission-connected project will use a 150 kV transformer that is supplied by local manufacturer Pauwels. The project has secured EUR97.5m (USD113m) in debt financing and a 15-year capacity contract in Belgian transmission system operator Elia’s Y-4 capacity remuneration mechanism (CRM) auction in November 2025. The project is expected to start commercial operations by mid-2027.

According to the company’s press release, Project Volt marks the debut of a planned expansion in Belgium. With over 810 MW of renewable and storage assets currently active or under construction across four nations, the developer is backed by a shareholder base that includes Belgium’s sovereign wealth fund, the Federal Holding and Investment Company (SFPIM).
