The Ministry of Energy and Mining of Argentina has received submissions for 6,366 MW of capacity in a tender for 1 GW of renewable power projects. The tender offered 600 MW of wind capacity, 300 MW of solar, 65 MW of biomass, 20 MW of small-hydropower and 15 MW of biogas and aimed at attracting US$1.5-2bn in investment while saving 2 MtCO2/year and US$300m in imported fuels for power generation.
A total of 123 bids have been submitted, largely exceeding the Ministry's expectations, including 49 bids totalling 3,648 MW for wind power in the Buenos Aires, Chubut, Río Negro, Santa Cruz, Neuquén, La Rioja, La Pampa, Mendoza, Córdoba and Santa Fé provinces. The 300 MW solar tender attracted 58 bids totalling 2,834 MW (in the Salta, San Juan, Jujuy, Catamarca, San Luis, La Rioja, Mendoza, Neuquén, La Pampa, Córdoba, Buenos Aires and Chaco provinces). Biomass and biogas projects received only 11 bids totalling 53 MW in the Entre Ríos, Corrientes, Córdoba, Tucumán, Santa Fé, Misiones and San Luis, while only 5 bids (11 MW) were submitted for small hydropower projects, in the Rio Negro and Mendoza province.
