Argentina launches the privatisation of its state-owned power utility ENARSA

The Argentinean government has announced the total privatisation of the state-owned power utility Energía Argentina (ENARSA) through Decree 286/2025. The measure seeks to improve service, promote competition and guarantee real and sustainable prices. The privatisation will be carried out through the separation of the activities and assets of each of its business units, starting with the sale of 100% of ENARSA's shares in CITELEC S (Transener's controlling company), responsible for electricity transmission throughout the country, through a national and international public tender.

ENARSA was created in 2004 through the enactment of Law 25,943, to participate in the hydrocarbon, natural gas and electricity business, from the study to the marketing of these resources. The company was also in charge of the supply and distribution of natural gas, and of generating, transporting, distributing and marketing electricity. The company was mainly owned by the Argentinean state (97.94%), with the remaining shares being owned by local provinces (0.32%), and Nucleoélectrica Argentina (0.01%).
