Argentina commissions a 500 kV transmission line in the Buenos Aires Province

Argentina’s Ministry of Energy has commissioned a 500 kV Extra High Voltage transmission line, which runs for 444 km and links Bahía Blanca and Mar del Plata, in the Buenos Aires Province (central Argentina). The line will provide 900 MVA of transformation power to the Argentinian network and impact more than 1 million Argentinian households.

The works on the transmission line also included the construction of a 185 km, 132 kV line between Doble Terna and the coast of the Buenos Aires Province, as well as an expansion of the Bahía Blanca Station to 500 kV.

This new line, together with the 500 kV Vivoratá – Plomer and Choele Choel – Puerto Madryn lines, which are yet to be built, will complete the corridor that ensures the supply of power in the Buenos Aires Province and will allow the evacuation of renewable energy.

In June 2023, Argentina inaugurated the 132 kV Juana Azurduy de Padilla international interconnection line with Bolivia, which includes 120 km of power lines (46 km in Bolivia and 74 km in Argentina). The new line will allow Bolivia to join the system that permits power exchanges between Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil.
