Arctech will supply equipment for 500 MW Manah-1 solar project in Oman

The Chinese solar manufacturer Arctech Solar has signed a contract to supply solar trackers for the 500 MW Manah-1 solar PV project located in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, in the Sultanate of Oman, under the Belt and Road cooperation.

The Manah-1 Solar Independent Power Project is being implemented by Wadi Noor Solar Power Company, set up by EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), a subsidiary of the South Korean state-owned Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). In January 2024, partners reached financial close on the project, which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025 and should sell its power generation to the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Oman aims to reach 20% of renewable energy consumption by 2030 and 35-39% by 2040. In 2022, solar accounted for only 5.5% of the capacity (638 MW) and less than 1% of its power generation.
