ArcelorMittal has unveiled three new renewable energy projects in India with a combined capacity of 1 GW (ArcelorMittal press release, 22/12/2025). The company expects to invest about US$900m for the development of a 36 MW solar project in Maharashtra, a 400 MW solar + 500 MWh BESS in Rajasthan and a 250 MW wind + 300 MW solar + 300 MWh BESS in Gujarat. The solar project in Maharashtra is expected to start operations by H1 2027, while the hybrid projects are expected to start by H1 2028. Once operational, the projects are expected to avoid the emissions of about 1.6 MtCO2/year.
The electricity generated will be supplied to AMNS India, ArcelorMittal’s 60/40 Indian steelmaking joint venture with Japan-based Nippon Steel.
The projects should increase ArcelorMittal’s renewable capacity in India to 2 GW, and its global renewable capacity to 3.3 GW.
