Angola inaugurates 4.1 bcm/year gas processing plant worth US$4bn

The Angolan President has inaugurated a US$4bn gas processing plant in Soyo, as the longtime crude producer shifts its focus toward natural gas.

  • The facility, constructed by the Novo Consórcio de Gás (NCG), can process 400 mcf/d (4.1 bcm/year) from Angola’s first non-associated gas fields (Quiluma and Maboqueiro);
  • NCG stakeholders include Azule Energy (a joint venture between Eni and BP), Sonangol E&P, Chevron, and TotalEnergies.

With the start of operations, the plant will supply fuel for domestic power generation, industrial users, and LNG exports, as Angola works to diversify its energy mix and reduce dependence on crude oil. This includes using gas for electricity generation, petrochemicals, ammonia, and urea production, according to Angola’s Minister of Minerals and Petroleum.
