Anadarko's Mozambique LNG project draws near FID (Mozambique)

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (Anadarko) signed two agreements with the government of Mozambique regarding the US$15bn Mozambique LNG (MLNG) project. The legal framework of these so-called "marine concessions" will enable Anadarko to design, build and operate (B&O) MLNG's marine facilities. The company announced that this deal is a significant contractual milestone on the road to the project's final investment decision (FID).

MLNG will be located on the Afungi peninsula in the Cabo Delgado province of northern Mozambique. It is expected to consist of two initial LNG trains with a capacity of 12 Mt/year and is being developed by Anadarko (26.5%) in partnership with Mitsui E&P Mozambique (20%), ONGC-OIL (16%), Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH, 15%), Bharat PetroResources (10%), PTTEP (8.5%) and Oil India (4%). It will exploit gas reserves from the Offshore Area 1 in the Rovuma basin (estimated to hold more than 2 100 bcm). The project was approved by the government at the end of 2016. First production is expected in 2020.
