Amprion will invest about €28bn by 2028 to expand its German power grid

Germany’s power transmission system operator (TSO) Amprion has announced a 25% rise on its five-year investment plan to expands its transmission network, increasing its original €22bn five-year investment plan to €27.5bn through 2028. Since 2021, the company has tripled its investments in grid expansion. 

Amprion is entering to the implementation phase of its investment plan, with the completion of key projects ahead of time. One of the projects is the A-Nord direct current link, which, in conjunction with the Ultranet project, should be the first wind power corridor in Germany to transport large volumes of renewable electricity from the North Sea to the west of Germany and as far south as Baden-Württemberg. Amprion has succeeded in moving forward its construction date by a whole year, and the project should go into operation in 2027. 

Amprion is one of the four operators in Germany, is 25.1%-owned by  RWE and it operates 11,000 km of high-voltage lines. Germany aims to supply 100% of electricity consumption through renewable sources by 2035.
