Amp Energy (part of the Carlyle group) has signed an agreement the Australian iron ore exploration and mining company Iron Road to develop a large green hydrogen project on the Cape Hardy Port Precinct in South Australia (Australia). Amp Energy, which has entered into a nine-month exclusivity period under its agreement with Iron Road, the owner of the site, plans to build up to 5 GW of electrolyser capacity over the next decade in the precinct, delivering more than 5 Mt/year of green ammonia.
Overall, Amp Energy is developing 20 GW of electrolyser capacity across three precincts, equivalent to 19 Mt/year of green ammonia production. In 2021, the group set up the AUD 2bn (US$1.3bn) Renewable Energy Hub of South Australia (REHSA) including 636 MW of solar and battery assets at at Robertstown, 336 MW at Bungama and 388 MW at Yoorndoo Ilga). The company has global operations in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and Spain including 4 GW of projects in late-stage development or construction.
