The Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies of Algeria has provided details on Algeria’s national strategy for the development of green hydrogen, which is estimated at US$25bn and aims to export 1 Mt/year by 2040. This amount is expected to cover the development of production, storage, and transport infrastructure, while also investing in workforce training.
In March 2023, Algeria unveiled its renewable hydrogen roadmap, setting the ambition to supply 10% of Europe’s renewable hydrogen demand by 2040. The strategy outlines the creation of a comprehensive green hydrogen ecosystem, including the establishment of research, development, and training centers dedicated to hydrogen. It also aims to foster a domestic hydrogen economy and targets the export of 30 to 40 TWh of blue and green hydrogen, primarily to Europe.
