The Alexandroupolis FSRU project is moving forward (Greece)

The Aberdeen-based engineering company Wood Group has secured a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Alexandroupolis LNG project in Greece.

The Alexandroupolis LNG FSRU is expected to have a capacity of 6.1 bcm/year and a storage capacity of up to 170 000 m3 of LNG. The project cost will reach €370m. The final investment decision (FID) is expected for late 2017 and the construction could start in 2018. The facility will probably be anchored at a fixed location south-west off the port of Alexandroupolis.

The project has the support of Greece, Bulgaria and the European Union. It is developed by Gastrade and Bulgaria's state-owned energy holding BEH. Bulgaria is interested in the facility and could import gas from the new terminal through the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) gas pipeline project that the two countries are developing.
