The renewable infrastructure company Alcazar Energy Partners has signed an agreement with the developer RP Global to acquire the rights to develop, build and operate 968 MW of renewables in Serbia. The deal includes the 200 MW Project Celzijus 1 wind park located about 25 km east of Belgrade, as well as a 768 MW portfolio of smaller renewable projects in the country.
Alcazar Energy has set a goal of building US$600m (€550m) worth of renewable energy assets in Serbia. The company targets US$1.2bn of total assets in the Western Balkans region. In June 2024, Alcazar had announced a US$500m investment in a 400 MW onshore wind project in North Macedonia.
In July 2024, Serbia adopted its Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) for the period until 2030 with projections until 2050. The country aims to invest in renewable energy sources and to add around 3.5 GW of new solar and wind power capacity by 2030, in order to generate nearly half (45%) of its power from clean sources. Renewables should reach 33.6% of the gross final energy consumption by 2030.
