Albania approves CWP's 600 MW wind project in Tropoja

Albania’s government has approved the construction of CWP's 600 MW wind project planned to be developed near the town of Tropoja (North Albania) (Balkan Green Energy News, 13/01/2026). The project is expected to be completed by 2027, as part of a larger €1.1bn investment plan to develop large-scale clean energy projects in the Western Balkans.

CWP Europe has 890 MW in wind power projects under development in Albania, with a portfolio of over 7 GW across Southeast Europe. The group is developing the 400 MW Montechevo solar+storage project in Montenegro.

At the end of 2024, Albania had a total installed capacity of about 2.9 GW, of which 86% consists of hydroelectric capacity with no wind capacity although it has an estimated wind potential of 7.4 GW  (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
