The US energy and infrastructure group Glenfarne has signed definitive agreements to supply 1 Mt/year of LNG to South Korea’s POSCO International for 20 years, sourced from its planned Alaska LNG export project in Alaska (United States). This follows a preliminary agreement signed in September 2025 (Glenfarne press release, 11/09/2025).
- The deal also includes provisions for POSCO to supply steel for the pipeline that will link the North Slope gas reserves to South-central Alaska and the export terminal.
- The Alaska LNG project comprises three components: a 1,299-km pipeline, a 20 Mt/year LNG export terminal in Nikiski, and a North Slope CCS facility designed to capture and store 7 MtCO₂/year.
Since becoming majority owner and lead developer of Alaska LNG in March 2025, Glenfarne has secured preliminary commercial commitments for 11 Mt/year of LNG from buyers in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand (Reuters, 04/12/2025). Alaska LNG is a joint venture between Glenfarne and the state-owned Alaska Gasline Development Corporation.
