Aker BP finds 80-200 mboe of oil resources in Norway

Aker BP has announced a new oil discovery in the Liatårnet well located in license 442 in the North of Alvheim and Krafla-Askja (NOAKA) area off the Norwegian coast. The well has proved oil with a gross resource estimate of 80-200 mboe. Overall, the discovery could hold up to 700 mboe in place. Aker BP is the oeprator of the license 442, in which it owns a 90.26% interest, in partnership with Polish group Lotos (9.74%).

AkerBP is a partner of national oil company Equinor in the Johan Sverdrup oilfield off Norway, which is expected to start production in November 2019. Johan Sverdrup is the largest field development on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) since the 1980s, with resources estimated at 2.1-3.1 Gboe. It is developed by Equinor (40%, operator), Lundin (22.6%), Petoro (17.4%), Aker BP (11.6%) and Total (8.4%). It should produce up to 660,000 bbl/d when the second phase of the project is commissioned in late 2022.

Aker BP ASA is jointly owned by Aker ASA (40%), BP (30%) and other shareholders (30%).
