Tema LNG Terminal Company, an affiliate of the private equity fund Helios Investment Partners, has signed an agreement with China Harbour Engineering Company for the construction of a LNG regasification terminal in the city of Tema (Ghana). The construction will be completed in 18 months and once built, the facility would supply gas to Ghana’s gas-fired power plant projects, of which in particular the 400 MW Bridge power project, currently being built in Tema as well.

The project will be supported by a 12-year gas supply agreement between Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Rosneft which was signed in May 2018. Rosneft will supply 1.7 Mt/year of LNG to GNPC. The terminal will then be transferred to GNPC and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) after the 12-year initial period.

The Tema facilities include a floating regasification barge (FSRU), floating storage unit and a pipeline, which will be connected to the domestic grid. The FSRU will be provided by the Höegh LNG through a 20-year agreement with Quantum Power Ghana Gas.
