AEP's Appalachian Power seeks proposals for 1 GW of wind (United States)

Appalachian Power, an affiliate of the US power utility American Electric Power (AEP), has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for up to 1,000 MW of wind and/or 100 MW of solar generation resources with optional battery energy-storage systems. The projects, which must be at least 50 MW in size and achieve a commercial operation date of no later than 15 December 2025, will help Appalachian Power meet the renewable energy requirements established by Virginia’s Clean Economy Act (VCEA), which targets 100% carbon-free energy in Virginia by 2050. All projects must be interconnected to PJM, the independent regional transmission organisation that manages the power grid in 13 states, including Virginia. AEP has 31 GW of power capacity, including 5.9 GW of renewables.
