AEP Texas will build a 765 kV power transmission lines in Texas (US)

AEP Texas has announced the construction of a 765 kV transmission line project in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to support the electricity needs of the Permian Basin (Texas, United States). The project includes the construction of over 300 miles (480 km) of transmission lines connecting AEP Texas’ Solstice Substation near Fort Stockton to a substation near San Antonio.

The project, which has secured the approval of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), is the first of three extra high voltage transmission (EHVT) lines approved in accordance to the Permian Basin reliability plan to support the region’s rapid growth and electrification of the oil and gas industry, as well as ensure long-term energy reliability.

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the Permian region (Texas and southeastern New Mexico) produced 48% of the country’s total crude oil production in 2024.
