AEP plans to buy 3 wind projects totalling 1,485 MW in Oklahoma (US)

Public Service Co. of Oklahoma (PSO) and Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO), two companies part of the US power group American Electric Power (AEP), have unveiled plans to buy three wind projects totalling 1,485 MW developed by Invenergy in Oklahoma (United States). The projects correspond to a 999 MW wind project being built north of Weatherford expected in late 2021, a 287 MW wind project being built southwest of Enid expected in late 2021, and a 199 MW wind project being built south of Alva due in late 2020. The three projects would generate more than 5.7 TWh/year of power. They were selected after competitive Request for Proposals (RFPs) to procure low-cost wind generation options for PSO and SWEPCO consumers. If regulators from Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas and the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approve the acquisition, SWEPCO will buy a 55% share in the projects (around 810 MW), while PSO will buy 45% (675 MW). Total investment in the wind project will near US$2bn, inclusive of all costs.
