ADNOC reaches FID on 3.6 bcm/year Ruwais Diyab gas project in Abu Dhabi (UAE)

ADNOC, through ADNOC Onshore, has taken a final investment decision (FID) on the Ruwais Diyab unconventional gas development in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (ADNOC press release, 02/11/2026). The project has an initial raw gas target of 345 mc/f, or 9.8 mcm/d (about 3.6 bcm/year), with production starting in 2029.

ADNOC Onshore will lead the development under a design-build-operate (DBO) model, designed to deliver gas over 25 years. Output could rise to about 1 bcf/d or 10.3 bcm/year. The gas will be processed on site and delivered to the UAE gas network through new pipelines. The project plans to use AI-enabled drilling and completion technologies. Technical studies, field testing and subsurface analysis were completed before the FID.

According to ADNOC, "the UAE holds the seventh-largest gas reserves in the world with 298 tcf (over 8,430 bcm) of conventional gas reserves and 160 tcf (over 4,500 bcm) of unconventional gas resources".
