The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a financial package to support the construction of a 250 MW/500 MWh BESS project in Cambodia (ADB press release, 24/06/2026). The USD63.4m package is expected to support the deployment a utility-scale BESS at the Takeo substation (Cambodia) to store excess renewable electricity and dispatch it during peak demand periods. The installation is expected to support growing electricity demand from industrial zones, agro-processing facilities and urban areas in southern Cambodia, while strengthening cross-border power trade with Vietnam.
The project supports the country’s target to reach 70% renewable capacity by 2030 and is expected to avoid almost 28 ktCO₂/year once operational. It will also contribute to the ASEAN Power Grid objective of achieving fully integrated electricity systems across Southeast Asia by 2045.
