Indonesian power generation company PT Adaro Power, a subsidiary of coal-mining group PT Adaro Energy, plans to develop 20 GW of new power capacity between 2012 and 2032. The group is already taking part to the development of a 2x1,000 MW coal-fired power plant in Batang (central Java) with a 34% stake; the US$4bn project is facing local opposition and difficulties in acquiring land and should not be commissioned before 2019. Adaro aims to participate more to power plant tenders planned by state-run national power company PT PLN: in 2015, the group aims to develop at least 40% (1.6-2 GW) of a 4-5 GW tender to be held by PLN.
PLN's 2015 tender is part of Indonesia's programme to add 35 GW to the existing public capacity (about 44 GW); the tender will focus on the development of two coal-fired power projects, Java-5 and Java-7, of 2x1,000 MW each. Total investment is estimated at US$3bn.
