Adani wins transmission project for 4.5 GW in Maharashtra (India)

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured a power transmission project in Maharashtra, India, designed to evacuate up to 4.5 GW of renewable energy from Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra, including Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, strengthening power flows between western and southern India (AESL press release, 26/08/2026).

The INR47bn (USD493m) project, known as “Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4,500 MW) – Part A”, was awarded through a Tariff Based Competitive Bidding process. It is planned to be executed through the special purpose vehicle Satara Power Transmission Ltd and is scheduled for completion within 36 months, i.e., before the end of 2029

The scheme includes the construction of a 765/400 kV substation in Satara, a 765 kV double-circuit transmission line between Kolhapur and Satara, and the expansion of the Kolhapur pooling station. According to AESL, the project is expected to add 562 circuit-km of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to its portfolio.

Following the award, AESL's cumulative transmission network has reached 29,739 circuit-km and 143,425 MVA of transformation capacity.
