Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has been awarded a INR85bn (USD881m) interstate transmission project in Andhra Pradesh, India, to support planned green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag region (AESL press release, 24/07/2026).
The project, named Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area (Phase I), is designed to meet an estimated additional electricity demand of around 4.5 GW. It is scheduled for completion within 30 months and will be implemented through a special purpose vehicle, Vizag Power Transmission Ltd, following AESL's selection through the Government of India's tariff-based competitive bidding process.
The infrastructure includes the construction of a 765/400 kV substation at Pendurthi (Visakhapatnam) and a 765/400 kV substation at Khammam-II. The project will add 1,582 circuit km of transmission lines and 10.5 GVA of transformation capacity to AESL's portfolio.
According to AESL, the project will also strengthen the grid in the Pendurthi-Vizag corridor, where investments in data centres, AI infrastructure and other digital industries are driving electricity demand growth.
The installation is aligned with India’s goal of becoming a global leader in green hydrogen as well as its New Vision Plan, which targets a hydrogen production of 150 Mt in 2047 (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
