Adani plans 650 MW solar power project in Tamil Nadu (India)

India's largest independent power generation company, Adani, has reached an agreement with the government of the Tamil Nadu state (India) to develop a 650 MW solar power project at Ramanathapuram-Kamudhi, worth Rs 4,536 crore (US$715m). Power will be sold to the Tamil Nadu generation and distribution company (TANGEDCO).

So far, Tamil Nadu had signed agreements with 31 project developers to develop 436 MW of solar projects. This new agreement raises the authorised capacity to 1,084 MW. These agreements are part of the state government’s solar policy, unveiled in 2012, planning to purchase 3,000 MW in three years (1,000 MW each in 2013, 2014 and 2015). In addition, more than 100 solar power producers have already registered with the state government to set up solar projects with a combined capacity of 2,722 MW, including 53 developers (1,132 MW) having already completed their feasibility study.
