India’s Adani Group has announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a pioneering 1,126 MW / 3,530 MWh project at Khavda, in Gujarat, in western India (Adani Group press release, 11/11/2025).

  • The project, involving the deployment of more than 700 BESS containers, will be the largest BESS installation in India.
  • It is scheduled to be commissioned by March 2026.

The project is in the advanced stages of deployment at Khavda, the world’s largest renewable energy plant, according to the company. Khavda Solar Park is being brought online in phases, with plans to add 30 GW over five years. The first gigawatt of capacity became commercially operational in early 2024.

Adani plans to deploy an additional 15 GWh of BESS capacity by March 2027, with a long-term target of 50 GWh total by 2030.
