Adani Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of the Indian group Adani, has commissioned the Khargar-Vikhroli power transmission line, which will supply an additional 1 GW to the city of Mumbai, in the State of Maharashtra (western India). The Khargar-Vikhroli transmission line comprises approximately 74 circuit km of 400 kV and 220 kV transmission lines, along with a 1,500 MVA 400 kV Gas Insulated Substation at Vikhroli, the first 400 kV substation of its kind in Mumbai.
Adani Energy Solutions has committed to increase the share of renewable energy in the overall energy mix of the city of Mumbai to 60% by 2027 (30% currently). Mumbai’s electricity demand is expected to reach 5 GW by fiscal year 2025, from the current peak demand of 4 GW. The city has only 1.8 GW of embedded generation capacity, which puts a strain on the transmission infrastructure.
Adani is developing another 1 GW, 80 km transmission line, between Kudus and Aarey, to supply the city of Mumbai, and for which the company reached financial close in early August 2023.
