ACWA Power has started commercial operations of its 334 MW/501 MWh Riverside BESS project located in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan (ACWA Power press release, 12/02/2026). The battery is part of the larger Riverside project, developed and fully owned by ACWA Power, which consists of a 200 MW solar PV facility (Plant 1) and the 334 MW/501 MWh BESS (Plant 2). The project is expected to generate up to 418 GWh/year of electricity.
In 2024 the Riverside project secured USD230m from the EBRD to finance its construction and operation (KEI, 05/07/2024). The project has the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan as its sole off taker, with which it holds a 25-year PPA (PV Magazine, 16/02/2026).
Uzbekistan has a total electricity capacity of 22 GW that is dominated by gas (64%), followed by coal (11%), hydro (11%), solar (10%) and oil (1.5%) (2024).
