ACWA Power partner with L&T on Yanbu Green Ammonia Project (Saudi Arabia)

The Saudi energy group ACWA Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Larsen & Toubro’s Renewables (RENU) division to collaborate on the Renewables & Grid scope of the Yanbu Green Ammonia Project in Saudi Arabia. The project will include solar PV, wind, and BESS capacity with associated substations and transmission lines. They would supply electricity to a 4 GW of electrolysis capacity, that would produce 400 kt/year of green hydrogen, which could be converted to green ammonia. It would also include auxiliary systems, such as a seawater desalination plant and an export terminal. The project is expected to enter commercial operations in 2030.

The MoU establishes a framework to optimise the design and performance of the renewable energy infrastructure, with Larsen & Toubro committed to an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract upon final approval. The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub will operate as a fully integrated facility powered solely by renewable energy. In July 2025, ACWA Power awarded a FEED contract to a consortium of Tecnicas Reunidas and Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering for the project.
