ACME and Ceigall win 600 MW solar-plus-storage project in India

The Indian energy companies ACME Solar Holdings and Ceigall India have emerged as winners in the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar (RUMSL) auction to develop a 600 MW grid-connected, ground-mounted solar power project with an integrated 440 MW/440 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Morena Solar Park in Madhya Pradesh (India). Both ACME and Ceigall were awarded 220 MW of storage capacity each, at tariffs of INR2.76/kWh (about USD3.13c/kWh) and INR2.70/kWh (around USD3.06c/kWh), respectively. These are the lowest tariffs ever recorded for a firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project. The tender was issued in September 2024.

Under the terms of the contract, the selected developers must design, build, operate, and maintain two solar, each with a capacity of up to 300 MW, featuring grid-connected, ground-mounted solar installations integrated with BESS. The Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company (MPPMCL) will supply nighttime charging power for the BESS component, in accordance with the power purchase agreements. MPPMCL will procure electricity on behalf of the state's three distribution companies.
