ACEnergy secures grid connection for a 250 MW/1 GWh battery in Australia

ACEnergy, an affiliate of the Philippines energy group ACEN Corporation, has secured an agreement of performance standards (5.3.4A notification) from the Australian Electricity Market Operator (AEMO) for the connection the 250 MW/1,000 MWh Joel Joel battery energy storage system (BESS), located in the Shire of Northern Grampians, 23 km east of Stawell in the Wimmera region of Victoria.

The AUD250m (US$162m) project had secured planning approval for a 350 MW/700 MWh battery energy storage facility system, while the notification from the AEMO authorises the connection of a 250 MW/1,000 MWh battery. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, and the battery is expected to be fully operational by late 2027.

In May 2025, the company’s 350 MW/700 MWh Little River BESS project was approved by the Australian State of Victoria through a fast-track procedure.
