ACEN secures approval for a 900 MW wind project in Australia

ACEN Australia, an affiliate of the Philippines conglomerate Ayala Corporation, has secured Federal Government approval for its 900 MW Robbins Island onshore wind project in the Circular Head region of North West Tasmania (Australia), requiring a total investment of AUD3bn (US$2bn). The transmission line to connect the project to the grid is following a separate approvals process anticipated to be completed in 2026, allowing the project to start generating power in 2030.

The project is expected to help the state of Tasmania and the Australian Federal Government reach their legislated emissions commitments. Tasmania aims to double its installed renewable production by 2040.

Wind accounts for 13% of Australia’s installed capacity, with 15 GW, and 11% of its power generation. More than 7 GW of wind projects are currently under construction, and 87 GW under development.
