ACEN inaugurates the first phase of a 720 MW solar plant in Australia

ACEN Australia, a subsidiary of the Philippine energy company ACEN, has inaugurated the 400 MW first phase its 720 MW New England Solar Project, located near Uralla in the state of New South Wales (eastern Australia).

The project, developed in two phases, was first approved by the Australian Government in 2020, started construction in March 2021 and produced its first power in December 2022. The solar park, which will be able to power 250,000 households, is currently the country’s largest. It will also comprise a adjacent battery storage system with a capacity of up to 400 MWh.

In addition to the New England Solar Project, ACEN Australia has more than 1 GW of projects under construction or at an advanced stage of development in the country. New South Wales set an objective to build 12 GW of renewable energy and 2 GW of long-duration storage by 2030.

At the end of 2021, solar represented 23% of Australia’s installed capacity with 19 GW and 10.5% of its power generation with 28 TWh.
