Acciona wins two major transmission projects in Australia (4.3 GW)

Acciona has been selected by the state governments of Western Australia and Victoria (Australia) for the development of two power transmission projects expected to allow the connection of approximately 4.3 GW of new renewable energy capacity.

The first project corresponds to the AUD655m (USD456m) Clean Energy Link East Stage 1 in Western Australia, a project expected to unlock a capacity of about 2.3 GW of new renewable energy. According to the announcement, Acciona will be responsible for the construction of a new transmission terminal south of Darkan to connect new renewable energy developments in the area to existing power grids (Acciona press release, 14/10/2026).

On the other hand, VicGrid, the state government agency responsible for planning, coordinating and developing the electricity transmission grid and renewable energy zones in Victoria, has selected Acciona as its preferred development partner for the development, financing, construction and 30-year operation of the Gippsland offshore wind 2 GW transmission project, under a concession agreement (Acciona press release, 15/10/2026). The project consists of a new 500 kV double-circuit overhead transmission line of about 60 km and includes the construction of a new 500kV terminal power station in Giffard.

Acciona established itself in Australia in 2002 and has since become one of the country’s leading infrastructure companies.
