Abare issued new Australian energy projections to 2029-30

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (Abare) issued a new research report which contains energy projections to 2029-30. The report provides long-term projections of Australian energy consumption, production and trade. It aims to take into account recent significant developments that are likely to shape Australia's energy sector.

By 2030, Australia’s primary energy consumption is projected to increase by 35% while electricity demand is expected to increase by nearly 50%. The electricity generation mix will still be dominated by coal-fired facilities, its growth depending of developments in CCS technologies. Natural gas will have an increasing share in the total power generation: it will play a major role as a ‘transitional’ fuel along with the development of renewables. Australia's energy production (excluding uranium) is projected to grow by more than 85% by 2030.
