The renewable developer Ocean Winds, the 50:50 joint venture of EDPR and ENGIE, has announced that its 882 MW Moray West offshore wind park, located off the coast of Scotland (United Kingdom), has delivered its first power from the first series of installed wind turbines and has exported it to Scotland’s National Electricity Transmission System (NETS). The wind park is expected to become fully operational by 2025.
The wind power plant will feature 60 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD wind turbines, each with a capacity of 14.7 MW. The project was first approved by the Scottish Government in 2019 and reached financial close in April 2023. The project is expected to provide electricity to more than 1.3 million Scottish households once completed.
Scotland targets 11 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. At the national level, the United Kingdom aims to reach 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 (13.8 GW in 2022 and 14.7 GW at the end of 2023, according to preliminary estimates).
