720 MW Bałtyk 2 offshore wind project secures construction permit (Poland)

Pomerania's local authorities (Poland) have issued a building permit for the 720 MW Bałtyk 2 offshore wind project developed by Polenergia and Equinor off Ustka and Łeba (northern Poland), along with a construction permit for two submarine export cables. The offshore wind project will consist of 50 wind turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and include an electrical system infrastructure supplied by Hitachi Energy.

Bałtyk 2 is part of three offshore projects in the Baltic Sea; Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 will each be rated 720 MW and are expected to generate first power in 2027. Partners are also developing the 1,560 MW Bałtyk 1 project, which will raise the projects' total capacity to 3 GW.

In the updated NECP, Poland aims at achieving 29.8% of renewables in final energy consumption in 2030. The country targets up to 5.9 GW of offshore wind in 2030 and up to 18 GW of offshore wind in 2040.
