640 MW Yunlin offshore wind project enters operations in Taiwan

Skyborn Renewables and Yunneng Wind Power have announced that their 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind project in Taiwan is fully operational. The project consists of 80 wind turbine generators that are expected to generate about 2,400 GWh/year, enough energy to power over 600,000 Taiwanese homes annually, and to avoid about 1.2 MtCO2/year. Located in the Taiwan Strait, the Yunlin offshore wind park will feed its electricity into the Taiwanese power grid via two onshore substations near the townships of Taixi and Sihu in Yunlin County and sell it to the Taiwan Power Company (TPC) under two 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The development and construction were led by Skyborn, with Yunneng (a JV between Skyborn, TotalEnergies, EGCO Group and Sojitz) being responsible for the construction and operation of the project. The companies have scheduled the commercial operations date of the project for June 2025, when TotalEnergies will take the lead of the technical operations management, whilst Skyborn will continue to lead all other management services.

Taiwan aims to reach 5.7 GW of offshore wind power by the end of 2025.
