The 5 Mt/year Mundra LNG import project starts operations (India)

The 5 Mt/year (6.75 bcm/year) Mundra LNG regasification terminal, located in Gujarat (western India), has entered commercial operation after the facility received its first LNG cargo from Qatar. Inaugurated in October 2018, the facility was technically operational. However, due to a dispute about lease and sub-commission agreements between the project promoters and the Gujarat government, its commissioning has been delayed to February 2020.

The Mundra LNG regasification terminal is owned by GSPC (50%), Adani and IOC (India Oil Company) (25% each). Its capacity could be later expanded to 10 Mt/year (13.5 bcm/year).

The new terminal will help India meeting its objective of 56.5 Mt/year of regasification capacity by 2025, up from 30 Mt/year in 2018. In February 2019, India commissioned the 5 Mt/year (6.75 bcm/year) Ennore LNG terminal, located near Chennai in Tamil Nadu (India).
