Australia greenlights a 450 MW/3.6 GWh Solar+BESS project in Queensland

Wooderson Solar, a project being developed by RES Australia and Energy Estate Holdings in Queensland (Australia), has been granted a “not a controlled action” status by the Australian government (Wooderson Solar press release, 20/02/2026). The status, given under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act, allows the developers to continue with its project without further federal environmental assessment.

The AUD1.9bn (USD1.3bn) Wooderson solar + BESS project is planned to be developed in Gladstone, Queensland, where it aims to install 980,000 solar panels with a 450 MWdc/3,600 MWh BESS with an eight-hour capacity. The project should be connected to the grid via a 275 kV transmission line and once operational it should generate enough electricity to power about 235,000 homes. The developers aim to start construction works in the first quarter of 2028 with commissioning expected for the first quarter of 2031
