4 offshore wind projects totalling 5 GW move forward (UK)

BP, EnBW, Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, and Flotation Energy have launched community consultations for three offshore wind projects totalling 3 GW in the Irish Sea (United Kingdom). The Morgan and Mona wind plants are being developed by BP and EnBW, while Morecambe is being developed by Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios and Flotation Energy. The projects are expected to submit their own development consent orders, with applications expected in 2024.

In addition, Fugro is set to start site investigations for the 2 GW MachairWind offshore wind project area off the coast of Islay in Scotland, which is being constructed by ScottishPower Renewables. The power plant will feature fixed-bottom foundations and its export cable will connect to a substation on the mainland of southwest Scotland, with National Grid expected to confirm the connection point in 2023. ScottishPower Renewables aims to submit an application for planning consent around the mid-2020s and to start construction on the MachairWind project in the mid-to-late 2020s.
