The 300 MW Saad solar project in Saudi Arabia enters construction

Ghazala, an affiliate of Jinko Power has achieved financial close and started construction of its 300 MW Saad solar project in Saudi Arabia. Elsewedy Electric has been selected as the EPC contractor for the project. The scope of the full-wrap EPC Contract includes design, supply, construction, warranty, initial operation and maintenance of the project. The Saad project, located in the vicinity of the town Saad in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is part of Category B projects under the third round of competitive tenders of the Kingdom's National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP). The 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed in March 2022 with Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC). The project is scheduled for commissioning in 2024.

Saudi Arabia aims to reach 50% renewables in the power capacity mix in 2030. Under its National Renewable Energy Program, the country targets 58.7 GW of renewables in 2030, 40 GW of which from solar and 16 GW from wind. Between 2019 and 2021, Saudi Arabia has launched several calls for tenders to develop 3.9 GW of solar.
