The 2.5 GW Baltica wind project (Poland) receives contract price approval

Poland’s Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has approved individual prices in contracts for difference (CfD) for both stages of the 2.5 GW Baltica offshore wind project (namely Baltica 2 and 3) developed by the Polish utility Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) and Denmark’s Ørsted. The individual price in CfD for the Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 stages of the project was set at the maximum strike price of PLN319.60/MWh (€67.93/MWh). In September 2022, the European Commission already approved the amount of the acceptable level of support for both stages of the project.

The Baltica Offshore Wind project obtained the environmental decision for its development in January 2020. The 1 GW Baltica 3 stage is planned for 2026, while the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 stage is to be commissioned in 2027 In August 2022, PGE and Ørsted selected a consortium of Ramboll Polska and Poland’s Projmors Maritime Construction Design Office as contractors to prepare the construction of the project.

As of end-2021, Poland did not yet have any offshore wind capacity but had nearly 7 GW of onshore wind capacity, which represented about 13% of the country’s total installed capacity. Poland has more than 500 MW of wind capacity under construction and over 17 GW under development.
