A consortium of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa, 51%), ACWA Power (25%) and the Chinese Silk Road Fund (24%) has secured the commercial operation certificate (COD) for the Noor Energy 1 solar project, located in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with a total capacity of 217 MW. The project, which is part of the 950 MW fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MBR) solar plant, comprises a concentrated solar power (CSP), central tower, a CSP parabolic trough and solar photovoltaic panels.
The country's total capacity is 40 GW (end of 2020) and is dominated by gas-fired power plants (88%), followed by solar (6%), nuclear (3%), coal (2%), and oil (1%).
