The 1.5 GW LNG-to-power project in Hai Lang enters construction (Vietnam)

The 1.5 GW Hai Lang LNG-to-power project in Hai An commune in the central province of Quang Tri's Hai Lang district (Vietnam) has entered construction. The power plant, which require an investment of VND54,000bn (US$2.4bn), is developed by a consortium of T&T Group from Vietnam (40%), Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas), Hanwha Energy Corporation (Hanwha) and Korea Southern Power (Kospo) sharing the remaining 60%. The project, which will include a 1.5 Mt/year LNG import terminal and a 1,500 MW LNG-to-power plant, was authorised by the People’s Committee of the central Quang Tri Province in October 2021 and the central government in February 2021. Commissioning is scheduled in 2026-2027.

The country’s total capacity amounts to 69.7 GW in 2020 (+27% compared to 2019), including 22.2 GW of coal, 20.1 GW of hydro, 16.5 GW of solar, 7.5 GW of gas and 2.5 GW of oil.
