The LNG project company Steelhead LNG and the Huu-ay-aht First Nations have shortlisted four contractors to complete front-end engineering and design (FEED) work on the proposed 12 Mt/year Kwispaa LNG project on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia (Canada). The four pre-selected companies will be working under the framework of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreements and include a consortium of Black & Veatch, Samsung Heavy Industries and PCL Industrial Management, a consortium of CB&I and Offshore Oil Engineering (COOEC), KBR, and TechnipFMC.
They will compete in the next tender process round and only two of them will be selected to undertake the FEED of the facility. The project will include two 6 Mt/year units and is expected to come onstream in 2024. It could later be extended by another 12 Mt/year since it is licensed to export up to 24 Mt/year of LNG for 25 years.
Steelhead LNG was also working on the 6 Mt/year Malahat LNG liquefaction project on the Bamberton Industrial Lands in British Columbia (Canada) but abandoned it in December 2017, saying it is no longer globally competitive.
