12 bidders pre-qualified for 420 MW Nachtigal hydro project (Cameroon)

Twelve companies have been pre-qualified for the construction works and equipments of the 420 MW Nachtigal hydropower project in Cameroon, developed by EDF; in July 2014, the government of Cameroon signed a production concession contract with the company for the development of the FCFA 410bn (US$850m) project.

A consortium of French companies Razel Bec, Sogea Satom and Vinci will compete with NGE Contracting-Société générale des travaux du Maroc and with a consortium of Besix (Belgium), Six International (Cameroon) and Tractebel Engineering (France) for construction works. Andritz Hydro, Toshiba Corporation-Clemessy, Alstom and Voith Hydro-Cegelec are competing for electrical equipments, while ENGIE's subsidairy Cofely INEO, Bouygues Energies et Services and Elecnor will compete for electricity lines.

Construction works are expected to start in 2016 for a commissioning in 2020-2021. The project will supply power to Rio Tinto Alcan's Alucam aluminium plant.
