Blueleaf Energy and Universal Peak have reached financial close with United Overseas Bank for a 100 MW/400 MWh BESS project in Malaysia (Blueleaf Energy press release, 01/09/2026). The facility is planned to be developed under a build-own-operate (BOO) model by BKHM BESS, a joint venture between Blueleaf Energy and Universal Peak.
Developed under Malaysia’s inaugural Battery Energy Storage System (MyBeST) programme, the BESS is expected to strengthen grid reliability and flexibility and support greater renewable energy integration. Construction should start shortly, with commissioning scheduled for mid-2027.
The development also supports Malaysia’s energy transition plans under the National Energy Transition Roadmap, which targets net-zero emissions by 2050. It follows the launch of the country’s Large Scale Solar 6 (LSS6) tender in July 2026.
Blueleaf Energy, part of the Macquarie Asset Management fund, has more than 1.3 GWp of projects in operation or under construction, alongside a development pipeline of over 13 GWp of generation projects and around 7 GWh of storage projects.
