Stromar Offshore Wind Farm Limited, the joint venture between the Danish energy company Ørsted and the renewable energy companies BlueFloat Energy and Renantis, has submitted its comprehensive environmental impact assessment (EIA) scoping and HRA screening reports to the Marine Directorate and Aberdeenshire Council for the offshore and onshore aspects of its 1 GW Stromar floating offshore wind energy project in Scotland (United Kingdom). Located at approximately 50 km east of Wick, the Stromar project is expected to produce energy to power the equivalent of over 1 million homes per year. A public consultation is scheduled in spring 2024 to inform and collect opinions from stakeholders to be considered in the site selection, design and development of the project.
The project is aligned with the Scottish and UK Governments’ net zero targets. In April 2023, the UK committed to fully decarbonise the power system by 2035, including an engagement to reach 50 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, of which 5 GW is floating offshore wind.
